I’ve been reading the Narnia series to the kids and this exhortation from the brave and ever-noble Reepicheep made me tear up a bit. I looked at the merry little band of souls in front of me, the three children Elijah and I have the privilege of raising in the midst of a very dark age. It’s enough to make my knees knock when I wonder what kinds of battles my children will encounter as they grow up. BUT we are children of the Light and have no need to fear the darkness. This is our reality… we are hemmed in before and behind—and underneath are the everlasting arms. (Ps. 139:5, Deut. 33:27)

I pray that the Lord will use these three to do mighty things for His kingdom.

P.S. Read good fiction. It’s so nourishing to the soul.

Mamas, don’t believe for a moment that the quiet work you’re doing within your home and family is insignificant. Your everyday faithfulness has eternal implications. But you can’t do it in your own strength or with your own goals in mind. Get on your knees and into God’s Word… you’ll find all you need for “life and godliness” in knowing Him (2 Peter 1:3-4).

We rejoice over the work of the Lord in Chloe’s heart! By His grace, we have been sowing and watering seeds of truth since she was tiny, but this week she came to us deeply feeling her need for Jesus.

The faith of a child is astounding and convicting… oh, to behold Him with that kind of clarity and simplicity, unfettered and unjaded by all our fleshly whims and earthly desires! No wonder Jesus said that must come to Him with the humility, faith, and trust of a child (Matthew 18:2-4).

One of the verses we discussed with Chloe was Romans 10:9. “… if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” She did and she does, praise Jesus!

Do you? Don’t delay to come to Him! He came to seek and save the lost—which is each of us apart from Him.

I’m re-reading “Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace” as we approach another school year. I loved this book last summer and I’m finding it even more meaningful as I move through its pages again. Sarah Mackenzie of @readaloudrevival wrote this slim (but rich) little volume as a mom of six children, three of them under the age of two... and two of those were twins. Her words are deeply encouraging and again, I am exhaling and remembering that as I work to plant seeds of truth and nurture the tender seedlings that are my children... International Day of the Midwife | I’d recognize those hands anywhere. As a student midwife and doula, I’ve watched those hands palpate expectant bellies, chart pages of notes, take heart tones, perform newborn exams. Those hands caught my very own babies, the first touch they felt before being placed up on my chest. 💕 Thankful for our midwife, Barbie Burrage, and her love for babies, their families, and the Lord. What a gift you’ve been to so many!

For me, it’s a few pages of fiction after my Bib

For me, it’s a few pages of fiction after my Bible reading and prayer, savored in the quiet of early morning. A “petit plaisir”, a “little pleasure”, found in an author’s carefully-carefully words, captivating storyline, and inspiring characters. I’ve found that a good novel gives me fresh perspective and inspiration for my own life and often gives language to things I’m pondering in my heart.
